With more than twenty years' teaching experience, he has worked with singers at every stage of their development, from complete beginners to professional recording and touring artists. He also taught at the London Centre of Contemporary Music (LCCM) for many years, covering vocal technique, performance and vocal anatomy across foundation and degree-level programmes.
Ed specialises in vocal technique and is known for quickly identifying and resolving underlying issues in the voice, allowing singers to focus on performance and expression rather than technical limitations. He works with singers preparing for recordings, tours, live performance and auditions, as well as developing singers building confidence and reliable technique.
Ed’s work also includes vocal health, workload management and recovery, helping singers maintain reliable performance over the long term.
“Ed, thank you for all the lessons. Tour went very well, and I was very pleased with my singing - better than ever. Even easier than the last time we played Vegas. Whatever you’re doing definitely works!”
Ed’s approach is rooted in thirty years of experience as a singer, writer and performer. He understands the practical, often demanding realities placed on a voice in the studio and on tour. This allows him to translate complex vocal mechanics into clear, instinctive adjustments that can be applied immediately in performance.
Originally trained in Speech Level Singing – the method used by artists such as Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder – Ed's work has since evolved to incorporate current research in vocal science, acoustics and vocal function. This depth of understanding allows him to identify and resolve complex vocal issues with clarity and efficiency.
Ed holds a BMus in Vocal Performance, Music Production and Arranging, as well as a second degree in Psychology & Physiology (BSc). These disciplines underpin his understanding of both the voice and the performer.
Ed has also completed specialist training in Vocal Distortions. He is also a skilled pianist, guitarist and songwriter, and an occasional arranger and producer.
He is a member of the British Voice Association (BVA) and Vocology in Practice (ViP), a global network of voice professionals.
Ed also works through his personal site, Ed Staunton Vocal Studio.
“Ed is simply the best singing teacher ever!”

Anna has been teaching contemporary singing for 25 years. She has taught and was an examiner, at both at degree and masters level, at Leeds College of Music, Trinity College London and Middlesex University, between 2000-2010.
“Anna is quite honestly the best singing teacher I’ve ever had. In two years of being taught by her, I can do things with my voice that I never imagined I would ever be able to do before now, plus I’ve gained a much more comprehensive understanding of how my voice works.”
Anna was also Head of Performance at LCCM (the London Centre of Contemporary Music) between 2010-2012.
She studied the legendary ‘Speech Level Singing’ (SLS) with Dave Stroud, who developed SLS and who taught Justin Timberlake and Rufus Wainwright.
Anna has a first-class degree in jazz studies from Leeds college of music, and a post-graduate diploma from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Anna has extensive experience performing and recording. She is a respected singer and songwriter, best known with her work with ‘Brotherly’, who were nominated for a Radio One award for a BBC 'Best Live Session' at Maida Vale in 2006 for DJ Gilles Peterson. Brotherly have released two critically acclaimed albums, ‘One Sweet Life’ (2005) and ‘Find First Light’ (2010).

“I was preparing to go on the 3rd leg of Zero 7’s 2009 World Tour, and I realised I needed an intense vocal overhaul to get my voice in shape quickly. There were a number of songs for the tour that I was positive were out of my range, and I was concerned that I might cause damage to my voice if I didn’t sort these issues out.
I went to Anna for my first vocal lesson, and she literally broke down every part of my voice and technique that we needed to target, and over the next 3 weeks I went from strength to strength, hitting notes comfortably that I never thought possible. Anna not only enabled me to make choices with my voice that I could never make before, but she also gave me a huge confidence with her encouraging and reassuring teaching manner.
I would recommend Anna to any serious vocalist who wants to sing with choices rather than limitations....book your lesson now folks! ”
