Ed is the highest level Speech Level Singing (SLS) instructor in the UK and now works full-time as a professional vocal coach. Personally trained by Maestro Seth Riggs himself (who was Michael Jackson's voice coach and who developed SLS), Ed specialises in vocal technique and is an expert in fixing singers' voices and helping them prepare for auditions, recordings, gigs, tours, or just for pleasure.
Ed works with recording artists and stage performers as well as amateurs. His clients have toured internationally and taken lead and supporting roles musicals such as Chicago, The Lion King and Thriller. Ed has also helped countless beginners find their own voice and express themselves.
He teaches privately here at Soho Vocal Tuition and also teaches the Vocal Anatomy, Function & Technique module on the B.Mus. degree course at the London Centre of Contemporary Music (LCCM).
Ed has been a certified SLS instructor since 2005 and has studied the SLS technique since 2003, including considerable time with the legendary Seth Riggs in his L.A. studios. Ed is also the UK representative for SLS and helps run the teacher training program here.
Ed holds a B.Mus. degree in Vocal Performance, Music Production and Arranging as well as a second degree in Psychology & Physiology (B.Sc.). These disciplines help strengthen his understanding of the voice and mind of the performer, which helps in communication with pupils.
As a vocal coach, Ed strives to bring the best out in his students' voices without compromising their individuality as a singer or making them sound either over-trained or unsuitable for their genre.
Although he now specialises in vocal technique, Ed has over 20 years’ experience as a singer, starting out as a rock singer then pop. He has also studied R&B, Jazz and Latin.
Ed is also an experienced guitarist, pianist and songwriter, and occasional arranger and producer.
He is also a member of the BVA, the British Voice Association.

Having lessons with Ed and can’t express how great he is. Really well structured lessons and amazing understanding of how the voice works.
Ed is simply the best singing teacher ever!
Ed Staunton is an absolute dude. I am learning so much and improving at an amazing rate.
I went to Ed because I was struggling to pitch and support harmonies, and project lead vocals. After a course of well-picked exercises and encouragement, I am now achieving things I didn’t think possible, and all within such a short period of time.
I look forward to my lesson every week and thoroughly enjoy myself every time. I can’t recommend Ed and Soho Vocal Tuition enough!!
I am a singer/song-writer and wanted to improve my technique and the general sound of my voice. Having already had a few lessons before with other teachers in other places, I wasn’t sure how much I could really improve and was feeling disheartened about it. However, after just one lesson with Ed I found new hope! He was so welcoming and friendly and explained so much about my voice that made so much sense and helped me to understand why I had been so limited with my range in the past.
He really knows his stuff, explains the ‘science’ of the voice in a really easy to understand way, really listens to what your needs are and gives you exercises that really work! After just a few weeks I (and all of my friends and family) noticed a massive improvement in my voice.
Ed is so professional, thorough and knowledgeable, and I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking to improve their singing, whatever their standard.

I was preparing to go on the 3rd leg of Zero 7’s 2009 World Tour, and I realised I needed an intense vocal overhaul to get my voice in shape quickly. There were a number of songs for the tour that I was positive were out of my range, and I was concerned that I might cause damage to my voice if I didn’t sort these issues out.
I went to Anna for my first vocal lesson, and she literally broke down every part of my voice and technique that we needed to target, and over the next 3 weeks I went from strength to strength, hitting notes comfortably that I never thought possible. Anna not only enabled me to make choices with my voice that I could never make before, but she also gave me a huge confidence with her encouraging and reassuring teaching manner.
I would recommend Anna to any serious vocalist who wants to sing with choices rather than limitations....book your lesson now folks!
Anna is quite honestly the best singing teacher I’ve ever had. In two years of being taught by her, I can do things with my voice that I never imagined I would ever be able to do before now, plus I’ve gained a much more comprehensive understanding of how my voice works.
